Chronic Back Pain – Lumbar and Thoracic

As months and years go by, my back seems to get worse. I been through several injections (epidurals, branch medial block facet injection, radiofrequency ablation [rfa], and etc.). I had minimal results for my left leg, but my lumbar and thoracic continue to test my strength daily. I have multi-level herniated discs in the lumbar and thoracic: L3/L4/L5/S1 and T7/T8/T9/T10/T11.

Life has become a series of what-ifs for me. If it wasn’t for my medication, I wouldn’t be able to work or have any quality of life. Of couse depression is a result from the struggle. I often consider surgery, but my family begs me not to.

Back Injury Disability Followup

It’s been about 2.5 weeks since I had last posted. I have been going to physical therapy 3 times per week and had received an epidural injection in the L5 S1. The pain in my left leg and foot is about 60% better, but I still have chronic pain in my lower back. My thoracic back still gets tight and fatigued if I stand up for too long.

I have been doing a lot of resting and light walks around my neighborhood with my wife and daughter. I’m sort of using the stroller as a hidden walker to support my thoracic and lumbar. It’s almost embarassing that I need to take periods of sitting down or I will start getting more pain, muscle tightness, and fatigue. At physical therapy I’m using their equipment to try and strengthen my core muscles so I can support myself better when walking around.

I also bought a massage chair at PC Richards for $800.00. It definitley was worth the buy and helps a lot. I’m trying to stay positive and use any tool that I can to help my situation.
